On 18 April 2023, the Advisory Council for the participation of Latvian civilian experts in civilian missions led by international organisations gathered for a meeting.
Under the chairmanship of the Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Political Director Andžejs Viļumsons, the participants examined issues of current importance related to the participation of Latvia’s civilian experts in international missions. The members of the Council were invited to nominate additional candidates for posting as civilian experts in missions, including those of the United Nations. The Council also considered the topic of training for civilian experts and discussed the matters to be included in the informational report of the Cabinet of Ministers on the participation of Latvian civilian experts in international missions.
The civilian experts of Latvia are seconded for work in the missions led by international organisations in accordance with the Law on International Assistance and Cabinet Regulation No. 598, “Procedures for sending a civilian expert for participation in an international mission or operation”.

The meeting of the of the Advisory Council brought together representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Revenues Service, the State Police, the State Border Guard, and the State Police College.
