On 30 May 2024, Riga hosted 3rd Strategic Dialogue meeting between Latvia and Azerbaijan, chaired by the Under Secretary, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev. During the meeting, the diplomats discussed matters of current relevance to bilateral cooperation, highlighting in particular the active dialogue between senior officials and the potential for economic cooperation, including in trade, green technologies and the transport and logistics sector.
The partners also exchanged views on cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan, cooperation in international organisations, as well as other topical regional and global issues, including Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The consultations addressed climate-related topics, including the United Nations Climate Conference COP29 to be hosted by Azerbaijan this coming November, participation in which has been approved by the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The previous Strategic Dialogue meeting between Latvia and Azerbaijan took place on 7 November 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
