On 12 August 2024, the Acting State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, welcomed the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel, Sandra Simovich, for an accreditation visit.
During the meeting, both expressed satisfaction with Latvia-Israel bilateral cooperation and contacts between officials. They were of the same mind regarding the need to expand current cooperation, especially in economic relations, education, science, culture, health care and other areas. Andžejs Viļumsons and Sandra Simovich also discussed current global security challenges, with a particular focus on Russian aggression in Ukraine and the escalation in the Middle East.
The official accreditation ceremony with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, is scheduled for 13 August.
