On 3 August 2021, the Acting State Secretary, Normans Penke, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Latvia, Javanshir Ahundov, who had arrived on a farewell visit.
Normans Penke highly appreciated the Ambassador’s contribution to enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and he also underlined that in view of the successful political dialogue between Latvia and Azerbaijan, contacts should be further promoted between the businesses of both countries.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan confirmed that the development of new and current trade corridors between Latvia and Azerbaijan must be continued. He also underlined that work must go on to develop the North-South trade corridor.
The Acting State Secretary noted that the format of inter-governmental commission meetings is a vital instrument in the promotion of practical cooperation as part of the bilateral relations of the countries.
Normans Penke and Javanshir Ahundov discussed further steps to advance the political dialogue.
The diplomats also expressed readiness to further promote bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation and mutual support in international organisations, including in the United Nations.
During the conversation, opinions were shared on current developments in the South Caucasus region.
Ambassador Javanshir Ahundov was accredited to Latvia on 21 July 2021.
