The Ambassador of Latvia, Elita Kuzma, presented her letter of credence to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro

On October 22, 2024, the Ambassador of Latvia, Elita Kuzma, presented her letter of credence to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, thereby becoming Permanent Observer of the Republic of Latvia to the Organization of American States.

Ambassador Kuzma emphasized that Latvia sees the Organization of American States as an important partner in safeguarding of the rules-based international order and Latvia’s commitment to strengthen cooperation. Ambassador also thanked the Secretary General for the Organization’s support to Ukraine.

General Secretary Luis Almagro acknowledged the existing cooperation with Latvia and the readiness to continue working together on current international issues. Both sides agreed that effective multilateralism and international law are the basis for international order and cooperation. The organization’s firm position in condemning Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine was highlighted in the conversation.

Ambassador Elita Kuzma and Secretary General Luis Almagro recalled previous cooperation in programs for strengthening women’s rights in the Latin American and Caribbean region, and agreed to cooperate in the panel discussion “Women’s engagement in the future of technology: security, ethics and culture” on November 12, 2024 in Washington. Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue on the impact of artificial intelligence on economy and sustainability.
