On 13 September 2021, in an accreditation ceremony in Vienna, Hofburg Palace, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Austria, Guna Japiņa, presented her credentials to the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen.
In her conversation with President Alexander Van der Bellen, Ambassador Guna Japiņa underlined that Latvia and Austria are linked by an intensive bilateral dialogue. She also highlighted the potential for expanding economic cooperation.
“Latvia stays true to European values and, just like Austria, is interested in a strong, competitive, digital Europe, which is able to respond to contemporary challenges such as climate change of migration”, the Ambassador underlined. “For Latvia, a small country at the EU’s external border, it is vital that Europe remain united.”
Guna Japiņa assumed her ambassadorial duties in Austria on 30 August 2021, succeeding Veronika Erte, who had been representing the interests of Latvia in Austria since 2017.
