On 9 November 2023, the Ambassador of Latvia, Aiga Liepiņa, submitted her letter of credence to H.M. King Philippe of Belgium.
The Ambassador thanked His Majesty for the contribution made by Belgium to the strengthening of security in the Baltic States. The Ambassador highlighted the potential of both countries for strengthening their bilateral relations, a practical demonstration of which in the economic sector is the participation of Belgian companies in large infrastructure projects in Latvia.
During her diplomatic career, Aiga Liepiņa has worked at the International Organisations and Human Rights Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served at the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in New York. She was posted as Ambassador to the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the Council of Europe and as non-resident Ambassador to Serbia. From 2019 to 2023, Aiga Liepiņa was Ambassador of Latvia to the Netherlands; at present, she continues in her post of Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague.
In her current posting, Aiga Liepiņa succeeds Ambassador to Belgium, Andris Razāns.
