On 13 December 2023, in an official ceremony in Skopje, the Ambassador of Latvia, Elita Kuzma, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski. 

In a conversation with the President of North Macedonia, the Latvian Ambassador highlighted the good and friendly relations between the two countries and confirmed readiness to strengthen the political dialogue and cooperation. Elita Kuzma thanked North Macedonia for its participation in NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence battle group in Latvia and noted that its presence made a valuable contribution to security across the entire Baltic region. “Latvia is prepared to further provide North Macedonia with its experience and expertise of EU integration through the implementation of various experience sharing projects, as well as preparing young professionals in European law and economics,” the Ambassador said.

While emphasizing the high geopolitical and strategic importance of the EU enlargement process, Elita Kuzma pledged Latvia’s continued support to the EU perspective for North Macedonia and all the Western Balkans countries. The Ambassador noted that Latvia welcomed the progress made by North Macedonia and was looking forward to its rapid integration into the EU.

As part of her accreditation visit, the Ambassador met with the President of the Assembly of North Macedonia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Head of the European Delegation to North Macedonia, as well as visiting the Latvian Honorary Consulate in Skopje and meeting with representatives of the Invest North Macedonia agency.

In her present posting, Elita Kuzma succeeds Gunta Pastore, who had been serving as Ambassador to North Macedonia since 2019.

The Ambassador of Latvia resides in Prague, the Czech Republic.
