On July 1, 2020, the Ambassador of Latvia, Ilmārs Breidaks, submitted a letter of credence to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry.
The Ambassador welcomed the opportunity to work in Egypt and to promote cooperation between the two countries. The bilateral relations between Latvia and Egypt are very good and constructive. Active political dialogue and cooperation in international organisations are under way.
The Embassy of Latvia in the Arab Republic of Egypt has been operating since 2007 and its principal task is to strengthen political dialogue and bilateral cooperation in economy and culture. Alongside traditional exports, there is a great potential for cooperation in the ICT sector in view of Egypt’s efforts in the field of digital modernisation. For a number of years, Egypt has been among top 30 of Latvia’s most significant export partners.
