On 12 December 2024, in an official ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Kārlis Eihenbaums, submitted his credentials to the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.
The conversation during the accreditation ceremony addressed dynamics of the Latvia-China bilateral relations as well as current international challenges.
During his diplomatic career, Kārlis Eihenbaums has served as Ambassador, Press Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, as well as Head of the Latvian Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. He has also been Foreign Affairs Adviser to the President of Latvia, Guntis Ulmanis. Kārlis Eihenbaums has been posted as First Secretary at the Embassy of Latvia in the United Kingdom, Counsellor at the Embassy of Latvia in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the first Permanent Representative of Latvia to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the State of Israel, the Republic of Estonia, and Canada.
Latvia and China established diplomatic relations 33 years ago. The Latvian Embassy in Beijing has been operational since 1998. In his present posting, Kārlis Eihenbaums succeeds the Ambassador of Latvia to China, Maija Manika.
