Turkmenistānā akreditēts Latvijas vēstnieks Reinis Trokša

On 9 December 2022, in an official ceremony in Ashgabat, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Reinis Trokša, submitted his letter of credence to the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, Gulshat Mammadova.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed preparedness to develop the political and economic dialogue and called for the strengthening of cooperation in the sectors of transit, logistics, information and communication technologies, and education. The Speaker of Parliament thanked Latvia for current support and voiced Turkmenistan’s interest in enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation.

As part of his accreditation visit, the Ambassador also met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vepa Hajiyev, for a discussion on current developments in, and future prospects for bilateral relations as well as cooperation between the European Union and Turkmenistan. The diplomats exchanged views on the opportunities for Latvian-Turkmenistani cooperation in the areas of transport and logistics, energy, green technologies, digital technologies, and education.   

The Turkmenistani officials noted they were prepared to organise the next meeting of Latvia-Turkmenistan Joint Committee for Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, in order to address the matters of future contacts. The Ambassador called on the Turkmenistani side to make use of transport and logistics services offered by Latvia in order to strengthen Turkmenistan’s connectivity with Europe.

The Ambassador of Latvia, Reinis Trokša, resides in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In February 2023, the two countries will mark of the 30th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Turkmenistan.
