On 4 December 2024, in Georgetown, Guyana, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the United Nations in New York, Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes, submitted a letter of credence to the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Carla N. Barnett.

The Ambassador noted Latvia's readiness to promote cooperation with CARICOM and its members, especially in the areas of trade, digital and pharmaceutical businesses, as well as in international organisations, regarding issues of peace and security, sustainable development and climate change.

Sanita Pavļuta-Deslandes is the first representative of Latvia to be accredited to CARICOM.

CARICOM is an international organisation established on 4 July 1973 by the Treaty of Chaguaramas to promote economic integration, cooperation, and the coordination of foreign policy among its members. The organisation includes 21 countries throughout the Caribbean and parts of South America, of which 15 are member states and six are associate members.
