On 28 March 2025 in Riga, the Ambassador at Large, Director of the United Nations Security Council Task Force, Andrejs Pildegovičs, and the Director of the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights, Katrīna Kaktiņa-Kalniņa, met with foreign honorary consuls to discuss Latvia’s candidacy for the UNSC in the 2025 elections seeking membership for the period of 2026–2027.

The foreign honorary consuls were briefed about the latest developments in Latvia’s UN Security Council campaign, and exchanged views on the priority areas of Latvia’s candidacy, including respect for international law and the United Nations Charter, strengthening multilateralism, strong support for Ukraine, promotion of gender equality, and the need to devote attention to the challenges posed by emerging threats.

The conversation highlighted Latvia’s contribution and broader opportunities for cooperation within the UN framework with the countries represented by the honorary consuls. Taking part in the meeting were honorary consuls from Australia, Central Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
