On 8 and 9 June 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds the annual training session in Riga for consular employees working at Latvian diplomatic and consular missions. After an interval of two years, the session is again being held in person.
In light of geopolitical processes, this year’s training event will focus in particular on crisis coordination issues. Consular officers will share their experience and personal conclusions, learn about crisis communication and enhance their knowledge and skills of stress management in crisis situations.
Training will address topics related to processing of personal data and drawing up personal identity documents. Consular officers, who are preparing for elections to the 14th Saeima (Latvian Parliament) and for setting up polling stations at the Latvian diplomatic missions, will also learn about the election procedures and possibilities for voting abroad.
This training event brings together 40 participants who currently are members of the consular staff from the Latvian diplomatic missions and consular posts or will be posted to positions abroad this summer. Lecturers are both co-workers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and experts from the National Armed Forces of Latvia, the Data State Inspectorate, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, and the Central Election Commission.
Annual training sessions for consular officers have been held since 1995. They have become a tradition that ensures effective learning and the sharing of information and experience among consular officials working both in Riga and abroad.
