On 27 May 2024, in Brussels, Belgium, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will take part in a meeting of the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council.

At the meeting, ministers will discuss Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Member States are also expected to exchange views on the state of play in Georgia in relation to the controversial draft law on transparency of foreign influence.

Following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, will also participate in the Brussels VIII Conference “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” and meet with Ayman Al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan.

Background information

The Foreign Affairs Council deals with issues relating to external action, including the common foreign and security policy, the European security and defence policy, external trade and development cooperation. The Council's main task is to ensure the unity, consistency and effectiveness of the EU's external action.
