On Wednesday, 5 March 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, will welcome a visit from the Minister for European Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Marie Bjerre, to discuss current EU matters in the run-up to the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in the second half of 2025. The Ministers will exchange views on the EU’s multi-annual financial framework (2028-2034), security and defence issues, support to Ukraine, and other topics high on the EU agenda.
The Danish Minister for European Affairs will also have a meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dace Melbārde.
Latvia and Denmark are bound by close bilateral relations and joint efforts to strengthen security and defence in the Baltic Sea region. Since August 2024, Denmark has been part, on a rotational basis, of the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia, as well as providing command of the NATO Multinational Division North as from 17 August 2023.
Marie Bjerre was appointed as Minister for European Affairs of Denmark on 29 August 2024.
