On 13 November 2024, in a meeting with members of the Latvian Exporters Association, “The Red Jackets”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, discussed the current geopolitical situation and its impact on Latvia’s economy, as well as hering out proposals from businesspeople concerning a more effective cooperation.
“Economic security is also a matter of national security, especially in the current geopolitical climate. Close and practical public-private cooperation is therefore of strategic importance. We have taken concrete steps to develop Latvia’s defence capabilities, its armed forces and the Allied presence, and it is no less important to also strengthen our country’s economic growth. One of the key priorities of the Foreign Service is to support businesspeople both in search of new vectors of export and in promoting their visibility, and consolidating positions in the existing and new export markets,” Baiba Braže emphasized in her address to the businesses.
The Minister engaged in a conversation with the companies Fortes Energy, Laflora, Printful, UPB Nams, HTTPOOL, Canelle Bakery, Gateway&Partners, STROPS Technologies, Karavella, Balticovo, SmartLynks, Latvenergo, DeskTime, Global Consulting, Brain Games, and TesDevLab.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs meets regularly with members of the non-governmental sector and social partners, including organisations representing businesses. The aim is to discuss and define the most appropriate support instruments at the disposal of the Foreign Service for attracting investments, entering and operating in new export markets, as well as promoting visibility, which is also important for currently active exporters.
The Foreign Service has a number of effective instruments that can help promote international cooperation – embassies abroad, representations in international organisations, the network of honorary consuls, as well as cooperation with the representative offices of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia. Latvian embassies abroad can provide support both to address problems and to identify new export opportunities. The Ministry, in cooperation with partners, regularly organises events for businesses who have expressed interest in new export markets. The purpose of the seminars is to familiarise the companies with the prerequisites and technical specifications for a particular target country or region, and experience stories from companies already actively exporting.
