On 21 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, met with the United States Ambassador to Latvia, Christopher Robinson. The officials discussed security and defence issues, support to Ukraine, holding Russia to account, the ways to enhance economic cooperation between Latvia and the United States, as well as international topicalities.

Foreign Minister Baiba Braže thanked the United States for its strong presence in Latvia and its contribution to strengthening the security of the Baltic States region, and she called for further cooperation in defence and deterrence, including through bolstering of NATO forces in the region. The Minister also underlined Latvia’s determination to further contribute to transatlantic security and support Ukraine in its fight against Russia. In the conversation, both partners strongly condemned Russia’s full-scale aggression in Ukraine as a gross violation of international law and voiced their determination to work together to hold Russia accountable.

The officials also discussed the potential for economic cooperation between the two countries. The Minister and the Ambassador agreed on the need to further deepen cooperation on trade, investment, innovation and new technologies.
