“We are like-minded partners who value multilateral cooperation and a rule-based international order. This week, on November 19, marking 1,000 days since Russia began a full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine, we are even more aware of the need to continue working closely together to constrain Russia and support Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and democracy,” emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, as she met with the Ambassadors of the Latin American and Caribbean countries accredited to Latvia.
The meeting on Wednesday, 20 November, was organized by the Ambassador of Spain and it was attended by ambassadors or embassy representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, and Portugal.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed her support for the deepening of relations between the European Union (EU) and the Latin American and Caribbean countries, emphasizing that both regions were widely represented at the EU-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean Sates) Summit in 2023. Baiba Braže also called for active work ahead of the next summit to achieve concrete results in the areas of common interest such as peace and stability, trade and investments, an inclusive and sustainable society.
The Minister reaffirmed Latvia’s interest in building closer bilateral relations with the countries of the region, maintaining regular political dialogue and developing economic relations in high-potential areas such as information and communication technologies, pharmaceuticals and bioeconomy.
