Baiba Braže uzstājas Varšavas drošības forumā

On 30 September and 1 October 2024, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, while on a working visit to Warsaw, Poland, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, the Head of the Polish President’s National Security Bureau, Jaciek Siewiera, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, as well as addressing the participants of the Warsaw Security Forum alongside with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania, and the Minister of Defence of Sweden.

At the beginning of her visit, Foreign Minister Baiba Braže met with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, to coordinate further steps in mobilizing international support for Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor. The Minister expressed her commitment to continue advocating for Ukraine’s security interests in the European Union, NATO, the United Nations, and on a bilateral basis.

The Foreign Minister also met with the Head of the Polish National Security Office, Jacek Siewiera, to discuss the close political and military cooperation between Latvia and Poland, as well as coordinating joint action in the strengthening of the EU’s external border and in transatlantic cooperation.

Further during her visit, Baiba Braže took part in Warsaw Security Forum’s high-level discussion together with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania and the Defence Minister of Sweden. Baiba Braže underlined that Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO would bring a considerable contribution to the security and prosperity of Europe as a whole, given the experience and combat capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces as well as the country’s economic and technological resources.

As the Foreign Minister met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the latter thanked Latvia for its presence in the NATO KFOR (Kosovo Force) mission and for support to democracy in Kosovo. Baiba Braže reaffirmed that Latvia was ready to continue contributing to the region’s security and stability in the framework of NATO’s KFOR.

Baiba Braže also delivered a speech in a round table discussion on the transatlantic security agenda organised by the Ditchley Foundation, addressing prominent foreign policy experts and opinion leaders from across Europe and the United States.

During her visit, the Minister gave interviews to Polish media – Polish Radio and OneNet.pl – and a Ukrainian newspaper, The Kyiv Indepedent.
