On 7 and 8 September 2023, Andžejs Viļumsons, Deputy State Secretary, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, visited Tbilisi together with the Political Directors of the Lithuanian and Estonian Ministries of Foreign Affairs in order to get a comprehensive picture of Georgia’s internal political situation and its progress in the process of integration with the European Union. Current regional and international issues were also discussed, especially in the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

In discussions with Georgian partners, the Political Directors reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Baltic States for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognised borders, as well as support to Georgia in its Euro-Atlantic integration and reform efforts. It was noted that Georgia must adhere to the greatest possible number of decisions under the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy. 

The Political Directors also met with representatives from Georgia’s civil society organisations to hear their perspective of progress made by Georgia in the Euro-Atlantic integration process.

Political Director Andžejs Viļumsons had a bilateral meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation, Paweł Herczyński, to discuss Georgia’s eurointegration process.

He also met with the leadership of the EU Monitoring Mission Georgia (EUMM) and a Latvian representative on the mission, Ilvars Dreimanis, in order to become acquainted with situation in Georgia’s territories occupied by Russia.
