On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a brutal full-scale war against Ukraine, which has now been ruthlessly grinding Ukrainian lives for three full years, destroying everything the freedom-loving Ukrainian people have built and created.

Latvia stands with Ukraine. We will tirelessly support the Ukrainian struggle for independence and their country.

In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the President of Latvia, the Speaker of the Saeima, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs call on the residents of Latvia to gather for a moment of silence at 9.00 a.m. on 24 February 2025, commemorating and paying tribute to the people of Ukraine and the sacrifices they have borne.

Let us also commemorate Latvian volunteers Vitālijs Smirnovs and Edgars Platonovs, who gave their lives in the fight against the Russian invader army in eastern Ukraine, as they defended Ukrainian freedom while being aware that they are also defending the freedom of Latvia and Europe as a whole.

For free and independent Ukraine!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to its defenders!
