Akreditācijas vēstuli saņem Latvijas vēstnieks OECD un UNESCO Indulis Ābelis

On 18 August 2020, in Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, presented credentials to the Ambassador-designate of Latvia to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Indulis Ābelis.

Since the beginning of his diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993, Indulis Ābelis has worked for the Foreign Trade Division and the International Economic Relations Department, as well as heading the Finance and Property Department and the European Department. From 2017 to the present, he was Head of the Foreign Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Promotion Department.

Indulis Ābelis has served at the Permanent Mission of Latvia to the United Nations in Geneva and the Latvian Embassy in France. He has been posted as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ireland, Norway and Iceland, and is currently Latvia's non-resident Ambassador to Tunisia.

The Ambassador has been awarded the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit and the French Ordre National de la Légion d’honneur, as well as certificates of commendation of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence.

Indulis Ābelis graduated from the International Economic Relations Programme of the Institute for International Economic Relations and Commerce at the University of Latvia. The Ambassador is fluent in English, French and Russian.

Indulis Ābelis is succeeding Ivita Burmistre, who has been representing Latvia’s interests at the OECD and UNESCO from 2016.
