On 20 December 2022, the Ambassador of Latvia to the Holy See, Elita Kuzma, presented a donation from the National Library of Latvia to the Vatican Apostolic Library on the occasion of the centenary of the Concordat between Latvia and the Holy See. The gifts were received by Archbishop Angelo Vincenzo Zani, Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church, and Msgr. Cesare Pasini, Prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library.
The Latvian delegation also handed over to the collection of the Apostolic Library a special issue of the Jurista Vārds magazine dedicated to the relationship between the State and the Church in Latvia from a legal perspective, and published to mark the centenary of signing and coming into effect of the Concordat between Latvia and the Holy See.
In addition, the gifts included the first day cover by Latvijas Pasts, with a postal stamp dedicated to the centenary of the Concordat, a book by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Riga, Zbigņevs Stankevičs, Dove va l’Occidente? La profezia di Bernhard Welte, and a film about the Venerable Bishop Boļeslavs Sloskāns.
The head of the Vatican Apostolic Library highlighted the excellent relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Latvia and the good cooperation between the Vatican Apostolic Library and the National Library of Latvia. Archbishop Zani reaffirmed that further support will be given to work of Latvian researchers in the Vatican Archive.
On 21 December 2022, as Pope Francis received the Latvian Delegation in General Audience, the Editor-in-Chief of the Jurista Vārds publication, Dina Gailīte, presented His Holiness with the special issue of the magazine.
The delegation of Latvia included the Ambassador of Latvia to the Holy See, Elita Kuzma; Jānis Pleps, formed Advisor to the President of Latvia on legal matters; the Editor-in-Chief of Jurista Vārds, Dina Gailīte; and the Counsellor at the Embassy of Latvia to the Holy See, Gundega Pumpure.
