On 30 November 2021 in Riga, the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, for a discussion on bilateral relations between the two countries, NATO’s presence in the region, and security policy topics.

This year marks a centenary since Spain recognised Latvia de iure, and diplomatic relations, as well as 30 years since the restoration of diplomatic ties, Edgars Rinkēvičs noted. He thanked Spain for its considerable contribution to Latvia’s security – participation in a NATO battlegroup in Latvia and NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission.
