On 21 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Saleumxay Kommasith. The officials discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, latest international developments, and cooperation in international organisations, especially the United Nations.
Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that Latvia desired to develop a political dialogue and promote the exchange of visits with Laos, as well as building cooperation in the fields of information technologies and tourism.
“The upcoming Summit of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Brussels this coming December brings opportunities for strengthening the European Union’s cooperation with the Indo-Pacific region. Therefore, we are prepared to make use of this event to seek bilateral points of intersection,” the Minister underlined.
During the conversation, the Foreign Minister welcomed the successful cooperation between the State Audit Office of Latvia and the Supreme Audit Institution of Laos.
