On 21 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gambia, Mamadou Tangara. At the meeting, the Ministers discussed the relations between the two countries, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and cooperation in international organisations.
Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined Latvia’s interest in the strengthening of a political dialogue and promoting bilateral exchange of visits with Gambia, and he noted that bilateral consultations at the level of Foreign Affairs Ministries would make it possible to identify concrete areas of cooperation.
“We see potential in closer cooperation between the European Union and Africa in international formats, especially the United Nations. The relationship between the two countries also has an untapped potential. Latvia can offer cooperation in medicine, engineering sciences, and information technologies,” Edgars Rinkēvičs said.
The Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs invited Mamadou Tangara to visit Latvia.
