On 7 November 2024, the Ambassador of Latvia to Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr Edgars Skuja, will open an ecology-related scientific exhibition, “Whispering Forest – the Science of Sound”. The exhibition will be on display from 8 November 2024 to 1 February 2025 at the Gazelli Art House in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The exhibition is a nature-inspired dialogue between Latvia and Azerbaijan. Artist Elnara Nasirli has recorded and converted to sounds the electronic signals issued by trees and plants. Discussions at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, excursions for the diplomatic corps and children, as well as movie screenings and other activities will take place in parallel to the exhibition.
The exhibition draws increased attention to environmental problems, and is being organized as a side event during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) held on from 11 to 22 November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Its aim is to promote international recognition of Latvia, share expertise in combating climate change, and highlight Latvia on the world map as green country adhering to sustainable values.
The event will be implemented as part of the public diplomacy programme in support of the lobby campaign of Latvia’s candidacy for the United Nations Security Council. The campaign under the motto of “Together for peace and resilience” aims at ensuring successful election of Latvia to the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term in the 2025 election, at which Latvia is running for an elected member’s seat for the first time. Membership of the UNSC will be a key instrument in pursuit and protection of Latvia’s foreign policy interests, as well as making it possible for Latvia to expand the scale of its international cooperation and thereby contributing to world peace and resilience.
