On 15 December 2023, Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš met with the Ambassador of Germany to Latvia, Christian Heldt. At the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral cooperation, while highlighting economic cooperation, especially on mobilisation of investments. As noted by Krišjānis Kariņš, Latvia would be interested in continued investments from Germany in Latvia’s economic sectors, including renewable energy projects. The Minister also welcomed the ongoing support by Germany for the German language studies in Latvia.
In a discussion over topics high on the international agenda, the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador agreed on the need to maintain unity between the Western countries and global partners against the manifestations of inter-state aggression. Support must be provided to Ukraine, while condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine.
