From 18 to 25 September 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will stay in New York to take part in the events of the high-level week as part of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On 21 September, the Minister will attend the main event of the high-level week of the UNGA 76th session, the opening of the General Debate, at which a statement will be delivered by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits. On 22 September, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will take part in a meeting of the Presidents of the Baltic States with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres. During his visit, the Minister also intends to have a conversation with the President of the 76th session of the UNGA, Abdulla Shahid.
Later, the Minister is to take part in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union and in events organised by several other countries. Edgars Rinkēvičs will deliver remarks at the 10th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies convened by Romania and the Ministerial Summit for Information and Democracy organised by France. The Minister will also give a speech at the meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism launched by the Foreign Ministers of France and Germany.
On the sidelines of the UNGA high-level week, Edgars Rinkēvičs is to have bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of countries from various regions – Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Pacific – as well as a meeting with the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean.
The high-level week of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York is taking place from 20 to 27 September. This year, events are planned on a limited scale and in a hybrid format. Latvia will be represented at the high-level week by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
