On 20 September 2022, in New York, during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz. The Ministers discussed issues relevant for the Latvia-Kosovo, and the European Union-Kosovo relations, and they also exchanged views on the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Latvian Foreign Minister praised the current political dialogue between Latvia and Kosovo and expressed readiness to continue high-level visits, mentioning the visit to Kosovo by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, this past April.
Edgars Rinkēvičs underlined that Latvia was interested in the further sharing of its experience with EU-related reforms. Latvia supports the process of Kosovo’s integration into the European Union and the visa liberalisation.
The Minister welcomed Kosovo’s condemnation of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In a discussion on the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Edgars Rinkēvičs noted that the normalisations of relations was in the common interests of Kosovo and Europe.
