On 5 May 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, took part in a high-level donors’ conference in support of Ukraine in Warsaw, Poland. The conference aimed at further promoting humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and its people.
In his remarks, the Latvian Foreign Minister underlined Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine in all the fields: political, military and that of humanitarian aid. Latvia’s assistance to Ukraine provided so far exceeds 220 million euros. Latvia as a whole – the government, businesses and civil society – stands united in their efforts to help Ukraine win the war. Latvia will get involved in the renewal of Ukraine – the reconstruction of its schools, preschools and hospitals, Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs said in his statement.
The Latvian Foreign Minister informed participants about a package of support measures for Ukrainian refugees in Latvia amounting to further 116 million euros. Latvia also intends to contribute 10 million euros towards the World Bank loan to enable Ukrainian government to continue its activities.
Edgars Rinkēvičs also expressed firm support from Latvia for Ukraine being granted the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.
The donors’ conference took place on the initiative of the governments of Poland and Sweden in partnership with the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
