From 19 to 23 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, will be on a working visit in New Delhi, India, where he will also participate, together with the Foreign Ministers of the Baltic States and Nordic countries, in the Raisina Dialogue conference and the CII India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave.

As part of his visit, the Minister will meet with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of India, the South Asian region and African countries, including, to explain Latvia’s position concerning Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine as violation of international law.

Latvia and India pursue constructive cooperation and active bilateral dialogue. We are interested in expanding the legal framework for relations between the two countries and deepening economic cooperation with the largest democracy in the world, Krišjānis Kariņš underlines.

On 20 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will take part in a discussion,India and Europe: Partners in Growth and Sustainability”, held during the India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave. 

On 21 February, Krišjānis Kariņš will attend a special ministerial plenary session of the India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave, as well as the opening of the Raisina Dialogue. Krišjānis Kariņš, together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic States and Nordic countries, is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will take part in a discussion on “Exploring synergies between NATO and India’s outlooks for future of security challenges”, hosted by the Conrad Adenauer Foundation and an Indian think-tank, the Observer Research Foundation (ORF).  

On 22 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will take part in the Raisina Dialogue sessions and in a working lunch hosted by the Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. At the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Krišjānis Kariņš will deliver a lecture and meet with the faculty and students at the Centre for European Studies.

In conclusion of his working visit, on 23 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in a discussion panel on “Back to the Future: A New Era of Conflict in Europe?” as part of the Raisina Dialogue.

During the working visit, several interviews are envisaged for Krišjānis Kariņš with India’s media.
