On 28 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, accepted a Ukrainian state award – the Order of Merit, First Class – from the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia, Anatolii Kutsevol.
During his meeting with the Ukrainian ambassador, the Minister expressed his deepest gratitude to the Ukrainian state and people for the honour and reaffirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s statehood and territorial indivisibility. Latvia’s comprehensive economic, political, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine will continue until its victory. In the conversation, the officials discussed issues of current relevance for bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the diplomatic efforts by Latvia in support of Ukraine and its Peace Formula.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, bestowed the high award upon the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, on 28 December 2023 for the Minister’s outstanding personal contribution to the strengthening of international cooperation with Ukraine, support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state, and facilitation of global support to Ukraine.
