On 23 September 2020, the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, had a telephone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahjan, to discuss bilateral relations, the normalisation of the UAE’s relations with Israel, and containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.
Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated the UAE Foreign Minister on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries marked on 18 September. He made note of the active bilateral dialogue between Latvia and the UAE, including high-level visits and cooperation in international organisations, as well as the expanding legal framework. The Latvian Foreign Minister welcomed the recent agreement on the normalisation of the diplomatic relations reached between the UAE and Israel.
