In honour of the 105th anniversary of the Latvian state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared an informative tour accompanied by an audio guide, “Diplomatic Riga”. All those interested are invited to acquaint themselves with the history of Latvian and foreign diplomacy by looking back at events in Riga over one hundred years ago and during the early years of Latvia’s independence. An hour-and-a-half tour includes 13 stops.
Stories and old photographs will take you for a walk along the Riga Boulevard Ring and let you find out which the first foreign legations in Riga were, and how the grateful people expressed their enthusiasm to foreign diplomatic representatives for recognizing Latvia de jure. Interesting facts reveal how during his student years, one of the next US presidents visited the pre-war Riga and why Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street in Riga still does not have a house number 13.
From 8 December 2023, the audio tour guide is available in English on the free izi.Travel app; it can be downloaded on smart devices with Android and iOS operating systems (Google Play or App Store). You can read or listen to the contents of the walking tour on the app, and choose the order, duration and starting point of the walk according to your preference.
The Foreign Ministry wishes everyone to learn more, understand deeper, judge more independently, and delve into detail!
