The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, has convened a meeting of the Foreign Policy Experts Council, which will meet for the first time in its new composition.

I am interested in hearing out Latvia’s best experts from various sectors in order to have in-depth discussions on current foreign policy and international issues on a regular basis, including on Latvia’s security and economic interests in the long term,” Baiba Braže underlines.

The meeting will take place on Friday, 25 October, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Chair of the Council is Dr. Kārlis Bukovskis, Director of the Latvian Foreign Policy Institute and Associate Professor at Riga Stradiņš University. The members of the Foreign Policy Experts Council are: (1) Dr. Māris Andžāns, Director of the Center for Geopolitical Studies Riga  association, Associated Professor at Riga Stradiņš University; (2) Dr. Una Aleksandra Čerenkova-Bērziņa, Head of the China Studies Centre at Riga Stradiņš University; (3) Māris Cepurītis, Director of the Centre for East European Policy Studies; (4) Ernests Jenavs, Chairman of the Board at the Latvian Startup Association; (5) Kaspars Pollaks, Head of Business Area Defence and Public Safety at LMT; (6) Dr. Toms Rostoks, Director of the National Defence Academy of Latvia, Associated Professor at the University of Latvia; (7) Andris Strazds, Head of General Secretariat at Latvijas Banka; (8) Sigita Struberga, Secretary General at the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation, LATO; and (9) Inese Vaivare, Director of the Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation association.

Experts are working on the Council on a voluntary basis and without remuneration.

About the Foreign Policy Experts Council

The Foreign Policy Experts Council has been established to implement a uniform and successful foreign policy and to inform the public regarding foreign policy matters (in accordance with Paragraph 18 of Cabinet Regulation No. 237 of 29 April 2003, By-laws of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and to engage with the Government’s social and cooperation partners and non-governmental organisations representing the sector in carrying out measures laid down in the Government Action Plan (in accordance with Paragraph 5 of the Cabinet Order No 55 of 20.01.2024, On the Government Action Plan for the Implementation of the Declaration of the Intended Activities of the Government headed by Evika Siliņa.
