On 20 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Krišjānis Kariņš, at the beginning of his working visit to New Delhi, India, took part in the Inaugural Session of the CII India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave, titled “India and Europe: Partners in Growth and Sustainability”.
Addressing those present, the Minister underlined that in the current geopolitical climate the European Union (EU) and India needed closer economic contacts.
“Being aware that the geopolitical situation is becoming increasingly complex, democracies and like-minded nations around the world need to work together to safeguard international law with the United Nations Charter at its core. The European Union and India need to work closer together in the economic sphere – both sides will benefit from that,” Krišjānis Kariņš underscored.
The participants of the forum were also addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsakhna, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis, as well as the Prime Minister of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
On the first day of his visit, the Foreign Minister also met with the head of the EU Delegation to India, Hervé Delphin, for a discussion on latest developments in the relations between the EU and India.
