On 17 February 2024, during the 60thMunich Security Conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, met with the recently appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popşoi. This was the first meeting between the two Foreign Ministers since Mikhai Popşoi was appointed to office this past 29 January.
Krišjānis Kariņš congratulated his colleague on taking up his new post at a historic time for Moldova. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Latvia’s support for the integration of Moldova into the European Union (EU) and commended Moldova’s resilience to the hybrid threat posed by Russia.
Krišjānis Kariņš also praised support provided by Moldova to Ukraine. The Foreign Ministers discussed interest in developing cooperation between the two countries and Moldova’s further steps towards its accession to the EU. Krišjānis Kariņš invited his Moldovan counterpart to visit Latvia.
