On 2 November 2023 in Berlin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, will meet with the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock. In a bilateral meeting, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries intend to discuss the development potential of cooperation between Latvia and Germany, especially in the field of development of the military industry, as well as sharing views on topics high on the European and global agenda.
The Foreign Minister will take part in a Ministerial Conference organised by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “A larger, stronger Union – making the European Union fit for enlargement and candidate countries fit for accession”. At the Federal Foreign Minister’s invitation, Krišjānis Kariņš is to moderate one of the three discussion panels at the conference, featuring a discussion on EU enlargement and reform.
The Ministerial Conference brings together the foreign ministers of more than 20 European Union Member States and enlargement countries for a joint discussion on the importance of a united and integrated Europe, and consequently, of the enlargement policy. The conference will also address support to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggression.
The conference precedes the publication by the European Commission of its annual Enlargement Package, which is to include progress reports on the countries in the EU enlargement process and set priorities for future reforms. Based on reports from the European Commission, an enlargement discussion between EU Member States is planned for December.
