On 23 and 24 October 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, will take part in the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council and the General Affairs Council of the European Union in Luxembourg.

On 23 October, the Foreign Affairs Council will focus on the situation in Israel and the Middle East region. Decisions are also planned to be taken on further support to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggression, and views will be exchanged on developments in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

At the EU-Central Asia ministerial meeting with participation of the Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, the officials intend to discuss the relations between the EU and Central Asia, the regional agenda and international developments. The ministers are to adopt a Road Map for the deepening of EU-Central Asia relations.

On 24 October, at the General Affairs Council, the ministers will discuss Europe’s future development and the situation with the rule of law, and continue preparations for the European Council meeting on 26 and 27 October. The Council will then debate the European Commission’s latest proposal concerning demographic change in Europe and take stock of progress on the request by Spain to expand the EU’s official language regime.
