On 17 September 2024, Dace Melbārde, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Erin McKee, Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
During the meeting, Dace Melbārde and Erin McKee welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 25 July in Washington, D.C., between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and USAID on promoting digital transformation in partner countries. The purpose of the memorandum is to foster closer cooperation between Latvia and the United States by providing support to partner countries in matters of digitalisation, in particular, to countries in the EU Eastern Partnership region, Central Asia and Africa. The officials also discussed the potential further cooperation in Moldova.
Erin McKee commended cooperation between the Latvian Embassy in Moldova and USAID as an excellent example of a successful international partnership that can serve as a model for other countries in promoting sustainable development and modernisation in the region.
