From 7 to 19 December 2021 in Tokyo, Roppongi Hills, the Embassy of Latvia in Japan and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia are holding Latvia Days to mark the 100th anniversary of Latvian-Japanese friendship. The event will offer the opportunity for every resident and visitor of Japanese capital city to explore Latvia’s culture and present-day achievements.
Online concerts with participation of Latvian and Japanese artists have been scheduled for 11 and 12 December. The performers will include Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls and singer Tokiko Kato, who will present the Japanese language version of the song Dāvāja Māriņa, NHK Tokyo children’s choir, the “Balti” kokle ensemble, “Dzintars” choir, The Sound Poets group, and others.
Visitors at Latvia Days will be able to take part in cooking master classes given by chef Mārtiņš Sirmais; to have an online conversation with Agnis Čavars, Edgars Krūmiņš, Kārlis Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis, gold medal winners in the 3X3 basketball at Tokyo Olympics; to learn about innovative solutions and goods offered by Latvian companies on the Japanese market; and do some shopping in a virtual Christmas market. An online business forum and tourism webinars will also be held. Children will be provided a special programme of Latvian animation films and handcraft workshops.
Roppongi Hills is one of the most prestigious leisure and entertainment complexes in Tokyo, with a daily visitor flow exceeding 100,000 people. It is for the first time that Japan is hosting a Latvia-related event of this scale.
