On 25 August 2020, the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers approved EUR 150,000 from the budget for unforeseen circumstances to be given in support of civil society and the independent media in Belarus.
Both “The Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation” and Centre MARTA in cooperation with NGOs in Belarus will be offering legal, psychological, medical, and practical assistance to people who have experienced human rights violations following the 9 August presidential elections. They will also be assisting in documenting the consequences of violence. The Centre MARTA will provide an opportunity for training to raise qualifications in psychological counseling for Belarusian specialists. The Baltic Media Centre of Excellence will implement projects to support the independent mass media in Belarus.
