On 1 December 2021, the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, who is taking part in the working session of NATO and partner country foreign ministers held as part of the meeting of the Alliance’s Foreign Ministers in Riga.
The Ministers exchanged views on the build-up of Russia’s forces at the Ukrainian border, developments in relation to the hybrid attack by Belarus, the impact on Ukraine by the energy crisis, and other pressing matters.
Edgars Rinkēvičs pledged Latvia’s unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Latvia is prepared to continue advocating vast support from the international community for Ukraine in the European Union, NATO and other international organisations, he underlined.
The Latvian Foreign Minister noted the importance of the NATO meeting, which reinforces a common position on the vitally needed support to Ukraine thereby deterring Russia from a new aggression towards Ukraine.
The Ministers then discussed the upcoming EU Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Brussels on 15 December.
