On 17 October 2024, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Aiga Liepiņa, submitted her credentials to His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume, Lieutenant-Representative of HRH the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
During the accreditation, the Crown Prince, Lieutenant-Representative of the Grand Duke reiterated the readiness of Luxembourg voiced by Grand Duke Henri during his visit to Riga last year to cooperate in the fields of high technology and logistics, as well as to explore Latvia’s experience in ecotechnologies and medical technologies. Ambassador Aiga Liepiņa assured the Crown Prince, Lieutenant-Representative of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg of Latvia’s interest in strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in economy, as well as exploring possibilities for cooperation between businesses and the scientific community in the space sector.
The family of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg supports cultural diversity and the status Luxembourg as an international environment. The Crown Prince listened with great interest to the Ambassador’s account of the active Latvian diaspora in Luxembourg and was pleased with Latvia being represented in the Luxembourg International Bazar, which will take place from 15 to 17 November this year.

Background information
Diplomatic relations between Latvia and Luxembourg date back to 4 October 1922, when Luxembourg recognized the state of Latvia.
Luxembourg did not formally recognise, either de jure or de facto, the annexation of the Baltic States to the USSR in 1940-1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored on 29 January 1992.
