On 15 September 2023 in Chisinau, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Edgars Bondars, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
In a conversation with the President, the Ambassador highlighted the friendly and close relations between the two countries, asserting desire to work actively towards deepening them. Edgars Bondars reaffirmed Latvia’s further support for the European integration of Moldova and for the strengthening of resilience to the threat posed by Russia. The Ambassador confirmed his readiness to continue providing the experience of Latvian experts to Moldova in areas such as agriculture, strategic communication, cyber security, digitalisation, media literacy, and combating disinformation, as well as in other key sectors.
The Ambassador handed over an invitation from the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, to visit Latvia.
The President of the Republic of Moldova commended the good bilateral relations between Moldova and Latvia and their intense political dialogue. She pointed out that the opening of a direct flight operated by airBaltic between Riga and Chisinau from May 2024 would give an additional impetus to building a more active cooperation.
The officials emphasised that all forms of support to Ukraine were a priority for both countries, and must be ensured in the long term.
Ambassador Edgars Bondars succeeds Uldis Mikuts, who has held the post of Ambassador to Moldova since 2019.
