On 25 August 2022, in the Presidential Palace in Helsinki, the Latvian Ambassador to Finland, Dace Treija-Masī, submitted her letter of credence to the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö.
The Ambassador’s conversation with the President of Finland addressed the deep bilateral cooperation between the two countries as well as recent developments in the European Union and those concerning security policy. The Ambassador highlighted the close political, economic and cultural relations between Latvia and Finland and their active cooperation on security and defence.
Dace Treija-Masī pledged strong support from Latvia to Finland’s NATO membership, and she noted that Latvia had been among the first to ratify the Accession Protocols to NATO for Finland and Sweden. Finland’s joining of NATO would strengthen and open up new opportunities for the Baltic-Nordic cooperation in the security sector, the Ambassador underlined.
In a discussion on Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Ambassador noted that Latvia would continue providing assistance to Ukraine both in support of its integration with the EU and by means of financial and military aid.
The Ambassador said she was prepared to make every effort to deepen the Latvian-Finnish bilateral relations, thereby also enhancing the overall security and development in the region.
In her present ambassadorial posting, Dace Treija-Masī succeeds Kristīne Našeniece, who had been the Ambassador to Finland since 2018.
