On 28 April 2022, in Athens, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Ieva Briede, presented her credentials to the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

In a conversation with the President, the Ambassador expressed commitment to the strengthening of the good and friendly relations between the two countries. This year we are celebrating the centenary of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Greece, Ambassador recalled. On the threshold of a new century, we are aware that this is the moment to take stock of what has been accomplished and to renew the efforts of building deeper and future-looking relationship thereby promoting a closer political dialogue and cooperation in economy, culture and education, the Ambassador underlined.

The Ambassador also noted that under the present-day complicated situation, it was vital to continue developing cooperation between Latvia and Greece in multilateral formats with the aim of promoting security and stability in Europe.

The Ambassador and the President were unanimous that both the countries must promote closer contacts and an exchange of views on issues of current importance for the EU, including in the areas of migration and climate change.

Ambassador Ieva Briede assumed her post in Greece on 29 March 2022.
