On 31 May 2022, in Reykjavik, in the official residence of the President of Iceland, Bessastaðir, the Ambassador of Latvia, Mārtiņš Klīve, presented his letter of credence to the President of Iceland, Guðni Jóhannesson.
In the context of the war waged by Russia on Ukraine, cooperation in the field of security has gained special importance. “Latvia highly values the close partnership with Iceland both in NATO and in the Baltic-Nordic cooperation (NB8),” the Ambassador underlined.
The President of Iceland, Guðni Jóhannesson, commended the contribution made by the Latvian diaspora to Iceland’s growth and the development of local communities.
In his ambassadorial post, Mārtiņš Klīve succeeds Judīte Dobele, who had been serving as Ambassador to Iceland since 2018.
